Background
The Grow More, Give More program helps fight hunger and food insecurity in Alabama communities. Through Grow More, Give More home gardeners grow extra fruits and vegetables to donate to neighbors in need, food banks, and community centers.
Grow More, Give More was started during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when Regional Extension Agent Bethany O’Rear saw the need for locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. To address the need for fresh local produce, there was also a need to help gardeners improve their garden yields.
The Grow More, Give More project, provides both novice and experienced gardeners valuable information and resources for a successful bountiful garden.
The Grow More, Give More program has been extremely successful and food donations increase each year. In 2022, 44,696 pounds of donated produce | Donations reached 7,450 Alabama families | Total donation value = $86, 710
The Autauga County Master Gardeners Associate (ACMGA) donate all the produce grown in the Demonstration Garden to the Autauga Interfaith Care Center (AICC) ↗
