Wilderness Park is a 26-plus acre area located on Upper Kingston Road, within the city limits of Prattville.
Wilderness park is home to an impressive bamboo forest not unlike the forests found in tropical Asia. The dense bamboo, which is over 60 feet tall in places, was originally planted by Prattville resident Floyd Smith who acquired the land in the 1940s.
There are four varieties of of bamboo growing in the park, which are identified by signs provided by the ACMGA.
A commemorative plaque at the park entrance states in part:
“This 26-Acre park was purchased by the Spinners Club on April 6, 1979 and sold to the City of Prattville on April 4, 1980. The City made many improvements before the park dedication on October 27, 1982”
