Why should I get my soil tested?
Soil testing enables gardeners to determine:
- Nutrients that exist in the soil
- Soil amendments needed by plants during their growth cycle
Soil tests also typically provide information on soil pH (acidity/alkalinity) and salt content.
The soil test will also indicate the amount of macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and calcium) and micronutrients such as zinc, iron, copper, and manganese.
This critical information eliminates guess work and helps ensure a successful growing season.
The following ACES articles provide details on how to properly gather soil samples and submit the sample to the The Auburn University Soil Testing Laboratory.
